A troubled mind often goes unnoticed. Pain and suffering have a way of concealing themselves behind warm, beautiful smiles. So how do we recognize the warning signs? While appearances can be deceiving, listening proves far more effective. We must tune in to young voices because children have much to share, yet they often fear that no one will truly hear them.
I would have given anything to understand what drove my two grandsons to the point of suicide, but their precious voices were silenced forever. This profound loss reinforced a critical truth: we must help young people recognize how important their voices truly are.
When we create safe spaces for authentic dialogue and demonstrate genuine interest in their experiences, we can bridge the gap between silent suffering and meaningful support. Every young person deserves to know that their voice matters, their struggles are valid, and help is available.
